<a href=press.php target=_top>Back</a><br /><br /> <table cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 border=0 width=300> <tr><td bgcolor=#9DB783><img src=images/spacer.gif width=1 height=1 /><br /></td> </tr> </table> <br /> <b>The AA</b> <span class=date>September 2003</span><br /><br /> <b>A RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR AWARD FOR WALES</b><br /> <b>THE FOXHUNTER, NR ABERGAVENNY</b><br /><br /> After eight years in London, Matt Tebbutt returned to his native Wales 18 months ago to open The Foxhunter at Nantyderry and has gone on to win the AA Restaurant of the Year Award for Wales.<br /><br /> Chef and patron, Matt, 29, quotes Alistair Little as his biggest culinary influence, although, as he says, he is in business for himself now and the customers themselves have taken over as the major driving force.<br /><br /> He has worked in London with many top chefs, including Marco Pierre White, Alistair Little and Sally Clarke. Matt says the time felt right for himself and his wife Lisa to move back to Wales and set about establishing a new venture.<br /><br /> They have returned to their homeland and converted a former Victorian pub in Nantyderry into a restaurant which has quickly built a local reputation for good food, friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere.<br /><br /> The menus are based around Mediterranean ideas with modern British cooking, using locally produced ingredients to create dishes such as Jerusalem artichoke risotto with truffle butter and pecorino, and roasted haddock with a subtle curry sauce.<br /><br /> Inspectors were also impressed with the wine list, which shows imagination, accompanied by an informal yet attentive service.<br /><br /> AA Chief Inspector Peter Birnie says: "It is already an excellent local restaurant and is developing a wider reputation.<br /><br /> "Matt and Lisa have transformed the Foxhunter with great taste and lots of hard work.
